New Year specials: Top ten Chennai box office openings

For any film, the opening day collections plays a prominent role at the box office. And of course for people in Tamil Nadu, any big star's release is just like Diwali with colourful celebrations everywhere! It's almost like a festival galore during the film release of there favourite star. People buy new clothes, they distribute sweets and some even perform pujas.

When it comes to box office, there is one name that always leads and that is our Superstar Rajinikanth. His big budget extravagance Enthiran, produced by Sun Pictures broke every single record at the box office this year. It is said that the film grossed a whopping Rs. 2 crores from Chennai alone on its opening day. No wonder Rajni is the Superstar of Tamil Nadu.

Yuvan to perform with Ilaiyaraaja


Popular music director Yuvanshankar Raja is all set to rock Chennai with his first live concert (at YMCA Nandanam) on January 16. Since this is the first-ever live concert for Yuvan, he has planned many surprise elements in the show. The concert, titled YUVAN!, will feature singers Shreya Goshal, Shankar Mahadevan, Karthik, Haricharan, Harish Raghavendra, Andrea, Rahul Nambiar, Vijay Yesudas, Tanvi, Suvi, Madhumita and Bela Shende. For the first time, Yuvan will perform live with his father Ilaiyaraaja on stage.

As part of the celebrations, Vijay TV would air a special series titled 'Yuvan Isai Raja' (weekdays at 8 p.m.) and RJ/actor Shiva will host the show. The show will also feature a long list of directors and actors who have worked with Yuvan. Directors Vishnuvardhan, Selvaraghavan, A.R. Murugadoss, Linguswamy will share their experiences. His siblings Karthik Raja, Venkat Prabhu, Prem G., Bhavatharini and Vasuki Baskar will also take part in the show.

Apart from that, a promotional music video titled 'I’ll be there for you', composed and sung by Yuvanshankar Raja will also be aired. This music video is directed by Vishnuvardhan and Nirav Shah has handled the camera.

More than 20,000 people are expected to attend the event which will be held at an open air venue: YMCA Nandanam, Chennai.

Nadunisi Naaygal to be dubbed in Telugu


Ace director Gautham Menon's upcoming quickie thriller Nadunisi Naaygal (midnight dogs) which is expected to hit screens in January, will be dubbed in Telugu soon.

Starring Sameera Reddy, Ashwin and Gautham's assistant Veera in the lead roles, the film narrates a series of events happening in a night and its duration will be 90 minutes. Interestingly, Nadunisi Naaygal has no songs. In fact, this movie does not even have a background score!

Jaya TV to buy Kaavalan rights?


As soon as Vijay walked out of Shankar's remake of 3 Idiots, there were reports that he has plans to make his political entry soon. When Vijay's father S.A. Chandrasekhar recently met AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa, the speculations rose further. Now there are reports that Jaya TV will buy the satellite rights of Kaavalan, starring Vijay and Asin, which is scheduled for a Pongal release.

So what does the close proximity indicate? Will Vijay campaign for AIADMK in the upcoming elections? Check this space; we will update you soon!

vivek`s six pack`s..!!


Heroes sporting six pack abs has become a common thing in Indian cinema, but have you heard of comedians working for six packs? Well, Vivek is doing so; the ace comedian is playing a prominent role (that of a gym master) in Prabhu Deva's next direcorial venture and the director has asked Vivek to work on his fitness. It is now heard that the comedian is hitting the gym really hard to become fit and shed his flab.

‘Vaanam’for Valentine’s Day


The much-expected ‘Vaanam’, a multistarrer which has STR, Bharath, Prakash Raj, Anushka, Sneha Ullal, Vega and Sonia Agarwal in lead roles, would hit the screens during the second week of February.

“The makers of the movie decided to release it in February because with Valentine’s Day round the corner, they hope that youngsters would throng theatres to watch this youth festival,” sources close to the unit say.

Produced by ‘VTV’ Ganesh, this Tamil remake of Telugu hit ‘Vedam’ is directed by Krish, who wielded the megaphone for the original too. Music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja, STR’s lucky mascot.

‘Evandi Unnai Pethan…’, a single number from the film’s audio was released recently and it was declared a hit by trade pundits. “The movie has many more surprises. It is a novel attempt,” STR says.

Yuvan`s hollywood plans..!!


Guess what Yuvanshankar Raja is dreaming to achieve in 2011? The young music composer wants to make a Hollywood debut in the forthcoming year and he is working towards that.

“I always love to dream big. My plan for the New Year is to step in to the Hollywood. I am seriously working in that direction,” the Raja Junior, who is getting ready for his first live concert in Chennai, says.

Happy about 2010, in which he enthused fans with chartbusters in films such as ‘Paiyaa’ and ‘Nan Mahan Alla’, Yuvan says, “it was a great year and I expect 2011 to be more exciting.”

Ask him how he would unwind himself, Yuvan says, “Simple, like anyone else, I relax by listening to music. I would listen to songs by appa (Ilayaraja) and from ‘Aadhavan’ by my good friend Harris Jayaraj.”
