Apple's iCloud paves way to simplicity

The way CEO Steve Jobs and his colleagues described it, Apple's new iCloud service is an express lane to computing bliss. By allowing users to synchronize music and other content wirelessly through the Internet instead of being held hostage by a stodgy old desktop, Apple has taken the most comprehensive step yet into consumer-based cloud computing.
"Keeping all those devices in sync,'' said Jobs, "is driving us all crazy.''
Cloud-computing, which allows a user to store content on a provider's remote servers and then tap into it easily from any desktop, laptop or mobile device, has been widely used for years now by business and government. With iCloud, Apple now seems to have flung open the doors to the much-vaunted "post-PC world'' and invited the rest of us in -- or at least those of us who use Apple products to increasingly manage our lives.
"I don't know how much easier you can make it for users,'' said Michael McGuire, vice president of research at the tech consultant firm Gartner. "If we keep moving in this direction, putting more and more of our content in the cloud, the next generation of users won't even know what a hard drive is anymore.''
Although some details of iCloud's inner-workings remain a mystery, Jobs presented tantalizing examples of ways that cloud-computing could soon change the lives of Apple consumers, and in a more indirect way, the lives of those who own neither an iPhone nor an iPad.Users of mobile devices, for instance, can use the free iCloud service to automatically upload documents, music and other content to Apple servers, then call them up on any Apple device. In the past, users had to "sync'' their music onto their iPhones, a slow and laborious process that iCloud now eliminates. The PC or Mac, said Jobs, was the hub of all this computing traffic, and it was time for Apple to "demote'' that hardware as the center that all other devices had to go through to grab content.
iCloud will allow users to sync files, apps, app data, and media across iOS devices, Macs and PCs. Essentially, all Apple devices will be able to "talk'' to the cloud, and users can move content to and from the cloud seamlessly, no matter where they are. The new service will let you share your online calendar with your spouse or buy new apps directly using any device you like. You buy the Yelp! app using your iPhone, and it automatically loads onto your Mac and iPod Touch.
iCloud will also automatically use Wi-Fi to back up your content each day, including your latest downloaded book or photo or even device settings. Work on a document on your Mac, shut it down, then work on that same document on your iPhone once you've left the house. Photos can be shared seconds after you take them with anyone in your Photo Stream network, or beamed up onto your Apple TV.
"It all just works,'' said Jobs. "We've made it so that you don't even have to think about it anymore.''
Competitors like Google and Amazon, both of which recently announced their own cloud-based digital music services, "will have a hard time keeping up with Apple now,'' said Jeff Buhl, a product manager in Denver for Jeppesen, which provides aeronautical data for pilots, including through an iPad app. "No one else is anywhere close to Apple as it moves into the cloud. And while companies have had access to it, Apple's now making it the consumers' cloud.''
Where it will all lead remains to be seen. Jobs raised

nearly as many questions about the new service as he provided answers for.
Australian researcher Daniel Woo, head of the Human Computer Interaction Lab at the University of New South Wales, was on hand for Jobs announcement. He points out that even while iCloud offers a way for users to seamlessly move documents and photos among their iPhones and iPads and between friends all linking to the same cloud storage locker, "bandwidth constraints are still a huge challenge.
"So with content like movies, which require so much space, we'll have to see what happens," Woo said. "But just starting with documents, cloud computing will fundamentally change how we write and collaborate on projects.'' Apple, he said, "has planted a flag in the sand, and what developers will do with this will be really interesting.''

Analyst Roger Kay, president of Endpoint Technologies Associates, said Apple's strategy "will legitimize the cloud for consumers. If they only include their own devices in the new service, that may limit the overall impact a bit, though this also might force non-Apple consumers into the Apple world. Either way, this will also provide an opportunity for others, like Amazon, to grow in the space. And Apple has paved the way.''

Microsoft Adding Cloud Storage to Xbox Live

Microsoft Add`s Cloud Storage to Xbox Live yes..Microsoft is going to launch this year but they did not specify about the release.Apple wasn't the only one making cloud-related announcements today. Microsoft's Xbox Live will also get cloud storage later this year.

what is cloud storage??
The update will allow Xbox Live users to sign into their accounts from any console at any time to access game saves and full profile, including items like Microsoft Points for purchases, Achievements, and friends.
"Cloud storage will allow you to enjoy the same great Xbox Live gaming experience even when you're not in your own living room by giving you the option to store your 'game saves' securely in the Xbox Live cloud instead of on a portable memory unit or your console's hard drive," Microsoft said in a statement. "Gone are the days of 'gamertag recovery.' Now all you need to do is sign in, no matter where you are!"

Microsoft said the update will be added "later this year," but did not specify a timeline.
The cloud option is just one of several updates coming to the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live. Also scheduled is a new dashboard that Microsoft said will be simpler, cleaner, and easier to navigate. "All of your favorite content is categorized in a way that is easy to browse and find what you're looking for, plus you can use voice anywhere in the dashboard to effortlessly navigate and get to what you want," the company said.
The voice component was a big part of Microsoft's larger press event this morning at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles. There, Microsoft unveiled Live TV, a new experience that adds live television streaming, built-in DVR functionality, voice-powered Bing searches, and a content deal with YouTube to the Xbox platform. "Quite simply we believe TV is more amazing with you as the controller," said Marc Whitten, vice president for Xbox Live.

Microsoft also unveiled a number of new games for the Xbox platform, some of which will have voice-control functionality thanks to Kinect.
"We want Xbox Live members around the globe to experience the magic of Kinect's voice recognition technology so we are committed to bringing voice to eight additional markets by the end of this year with a total of 13 markets that will have Kinect voice," Microsoft said. "We are also exploring some innovative new ways to enable the Live community to help us accelerate the refinement of voice models in new markets, and look forward to sharing developments on that front soon."
Another addition to Xbox Live will be Beacons, which will let you notify Xbox and Facebook friends that you want to play a game on Xbox Live. Set a Beacon and tell Xbox Live what you want to play, and Xbox Live will let you know when friends are playing or if they want to play the same game.
"With Beacons, no matter what you're currently doing on Xbox Live your friends know that it's ok to ask you to play your Beaconed games," Microsoft said. "Imagine sending out a Beacon to let your friends know you're interested in playing 'Halo,' while watching a movie on Netflix."

STR’s partying style

It is well known that Simbu always enjoys his life to the fullest. He is one actor who always freak out in the town most days of the week along with his close friends.

Many top heroes of Kollywood prefer to stay away from the clubs and lounge bars to maintain high-pitched clean image but STR is very open about his personal partying ways. He along with his close friend producer Ganesh are frequently spotted at 10D, Dublin at Sheraton Park and at Paasha at The Park. He never feels shy to make his public appearance at parties and he is also available to the media. Not only that he readily poses for the Page 3 shutterbugs.

Guess STR believes that his life is an open book and he wants people to know him for what he is.

'Irandam Ulagam' - Audio launch shortly

Anything from the sets of a Selvaraghavan movie is nothing less than news to movie buffs.

We had earlier reported to you that 'Viswaroopam' had moved from Selva’s hands to Kamal for direction as Selva's 'Irandam Ulagam' may take more time to complete. But look's like 'Irandam Ulagam' is indeed moving at a brisk pace.

The music composer of the film, GV Prakash had tweeted to his pals that this much-awaited flick has six tracks and a theme music. He also confirmed that the audio launch will take place next month. Probably, before Selva's wedding?

This is the second time GV Prakash is pairing with Selvaraghavan, the first being 'Aayirathil Oruvan,' the music of which was well-received by all. At the same time, GV's earlier movies with Dhanush, that is to say, 'Pollathavan' and 'Aadukalam' are noted for their tracks.

It is known by now that the lead roles play doctors / medical students in the film, but there are a few birdies who claim the movie features Dhanush and Richa as a married couple and ventures their dark pasts, however we can’t be sure of that.

With GV Prakash's update, Selva’s fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the project has been going on-and-off from five long years! We'll get back to you shortly with the date of the audio launch so that you can grab your copy from a nearby DVD store…

Venghai's track list is out!

Director Hari and Dhanush's forthcoming flick 'Venghai' is much-awaited due to reasons many. In the decade long career of Hari's, out of his ten movies nine have been box-office hits and even blockbusters. He can be rightly referred to as K-town's master of commercial entertainers.

After bagging the National Award, fans' expectations from Dhanush has become multi-fold. The movie stars Tamannah opposite Dhanush and the duo's earlier 'Padikathavan' was a good entertainer. The music is composed by DSP who is known for his fast and peppy numbers.

Now 'Venghai's track list is out, and looks like we can surely wait for yet another mass-masala action flick soon. The lyrics are penned by Viveka and Hari and there are five tracks in this flim.

While "Dhenam Dhenam..." is sung by Benny Dayal, it is said that there are rap interludes that are written and sung by Baba Sehgal. "Yenna Solla Pore..." is sung by DSP himself, who is best at his peppy numbers, so we can guess that this might be one of those fast-paced tracks.

"Kaalangathale..." is sung by Karthik and Roshini, "Orey Oru..." by Tippu and Harini. Mukesh and Suchitra have lent their voices for "Pudikale Pudikuthu..."

The story revolves around how an angry young man should never get to the usage of weapons to vent his anger.

The audio launch of 'Venghai' will be held on June 10 and will sure be a star-studded glitzy affair.

Made-in-India Renault hatchback by early 2012?

Renault, France's second-largest car maker, is conducting feasibility studies for building a car that would be fully developed in India using expertise from its fledgling research and development and design centre in the country.

While the road map for this year and the next involves launching nearly half a dozen passenger vehicles in the local market, the new locally developed cars could come in the next phase of expansion that would begin in 2015.

The French company will, most likely, look to build a small hatchback to start with, which could complement a premium new small car due for launch early next year.

However, company officials said it would not be possible to share details, as the study had just begun.

SKODA LAURA RS ARRIVING THIS SEPTEMBER MINUS THE POWER BOOST?

The last RS car from Skoda India was the 150 Bhp Turbo Petrol Octavia, which also heralded the turbo petrol era amongst Indian cars. The Skoda Octavia RS went fast, handled like it was on rails and had the biggest bang-to-buck factor for under 15 Lakh rupees for the Indian driving enthusiast. Now, that we have more than a couple of cars with turbocharged petrol engines for the enthusiast to choose from, Skoda India seems to be mulling a comeback with the Laura RS, that could arrive into India, this September.
Or so says AutocarIndia editor, Mr Hormazd Sorabjee who also goes on to say that the Laura RS will arrive with the RS body treatment but not the 200 Bhp TSI engine that veritably is the cherry on the cake. Skoda, it seems to be taking a safe approach and may outfit the Laura RS with the same 160 Bhp, 1.8 Liter TSI petrol engine found on the current Laura considering fuel economy as a key factor. This, as fuel prices having gone through the roof, the 200 Bhp Laura might be a little to expensive to run.

Nintendo becomes latest server hack victim of Lulz Security

Just ahead of the expected debut of the next generation Wii console at E3 2011 in Los Angeles this week, Nintendo has found itself as the latest big name victim of hackers.

Fortunately, things for Nintendo don’t look nearly as bad as they did for Sony when its PlayStation Network went down in April.

This time the group responsible was Lulz Security, a hacker group that recently claimed responsibility for another Sony attack involving over a million accounts last week.

To Nintendo’s credit, the gaming giant has responded somewhat quickly to the public although many details haven’t been revealed yet, such as how much data was actually at risk. Nevertheless, Nintendo asserts that nothing sensitive (personal or corporate account related) was actually stolen.

"... We have seen no relent in the input costs over several months now, which has forced us to increase the cost of the Vento," Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt Ltd Member of Board & Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Neeraj Garg said.

"On the other hand we are fully aware that customers who prefer the petrol variants are already faced with the burden of increased fuel costs and therefore we have decided to continue absorbing the additional costs for our petrol variants," he added.

VW India further said it would offer a reduced interest rate of 6.99 per cent starting June, 2011, on select variants of the Vento petrol version.
